Cake Designs
Q. Do you only offer the cakes that are displayed on your website?
A. No, we also love to create new bespoke cakes tailored to your individual needs. Each cake is expertly designed by Claire an experienced cake decorator with an inspired talent for sugarcraft. Simply contact us to discuss your requirements.
Q. I like a cake on your website but would like a variation on it, is this possible?
A. No problem at all. We can base a design on any of our existing range and then alter it to your specific desires.
Cake Types
Q. What types of cake do you bake?
A. We offer a rich fruit cake, a carrot and walnut cake, and three different types of sponge:
1. Madeira sponge with jam and vanilla buttercream filling;
2. Chocolate sponge with chocolate buttercream filling;
3. Lemon sponge with lemon curd and buttercream filling.
We can also bake sponges to cater for specific dietary requirements upon request.
Q. Can I have different flavoured cakes tiers?
A. Yes, your wedding cake can be fruit, sponge or a combination of both. If you chose fruit cake then this must form the bottom tier as it is the heaviest and therefore supports the whole cake.
Cake Decorations
Q. Are the cake decorations edible?
A. They are all crafted using edible sugar paste, however we sometimes need to insert wooden dowel or wire supports so it is advisable not to eat the decorations, or make sure you have removed all supports first.
Q. Are the flowers on your cakes real or silk?
A. Neither. All of our flowers are handmade from sugar paste using skilled sugarcraft techniques. If required we can design them to closely match your wedding bouquet.
Q. Can I keep the sugarflowers from my cake?
A. Yes, if you protect and preserve the sugarflowers by keeping them in a dry environment away from direct sunlight then they can last for years.
Q. Can I use real flowers instead of sugarflowers on my wedding cake?
A. Yes, if you wish to use real flowers then we can design your cake with polystyrene separators for your florist to insert your chosen arrangement.
Q. Do you make bride and groom figures?
A. Yes, we create figure toppers using sugar paste to best represent you both. We will endeavour to model them on you via pictures of yourselves and your chosen wedding day clothes that you will need to provide.
Wedding Cake Consultations
Q. How much does a consultation cost?
A. Nothing, they are free-of-charge, no strings attached.
Q. Where are the consultations held?
A. All appointments are held in person by Claire from the Sugarlicious address in Billericay, Essex.
Q. When can I visit?
A. Appointments are available Monday to Tuesday between 7:30pm and 8:30pm, or Wednesday to Friday between 10:30am and 8:30pm, or Saturday between 10:30am and 2:00pm.
Q. Do I need to bring anything with me?
A. It is always helpful if you come armed with ideas, pictures, chosen colour schemes/swatches, flowers, etc. But if you haven't got anything then this is fine as we have a useful array of design ideas for you to browse through.
Q. How do I book a consultation?
A. Simply contact us via any of the methods listed on our contacts page, or by filling in our online consultation form.
Delivery or Collection
Q. Can I collect?
A. Yes. Just let us know the date and time you would like to collect the cake. Once confirmed we will ensure your cake is boxed up and ready for collection from our address in Billericay, Essex.
Q. Do you deliver?
A. Yes, we deliver and set-up wedding cakes within much of the local area (Essex, London, Kent, Hertfordshire), but we mainly restrict delivery of celebration cakes to within the county of Essex only (please contact us to check for delivery to areas outside of Essex). Delivery will of course incur an additional cost based on the distance required to travel.
Q. How much do you charge for delivery?
A. Delivery cost will vary based on the distance required to travel. Prices start from £10. We do however deliver for free to the wedding venues Stock Brook Manor in Billericay and Greenwoods in Stock.
Q. Do you supply cake stands and knives?
A. No, we do not supply cake stands or knives, however we recommend you contact your wedding venue as they normally provide these free-of-charge. We do though offer the design and provision of a knife posy to match your wedding cake theme upon request.
Ordering
Q. How much notice do you need?
A. We prefer as much notice as possible but as a minimum deadline we would look for at least three months notice for ordering a wedding cake which contains fruit cake, or six weeks for all sponge. For celebration cakes we would require at least one week's notice. Having said all that we are sometimes able to cater for emergency orders, depending on our current workload, just contact us to confirm.
Q. How do I order a Sugarlicious cake?
A. There are three options:
1. Call us on 01277 634963 or 07707 037250;
2. Email cakes@sugarliciousonline.com with your requirements;
3. For celebration cakes you can order online by clicking on the 'Order Form' button, which is shown on each individual cake page, then simply submit your details on the page shown and we will contact you back to confirm your request and arrange payment.
Payment
Q. What are your payment arrangements?
A. Upon booking we ask for a 50% non-refundable deposit to confirm your order. We will then require the balance 2 weeks before delivery / collection for wedding cakes and on the day for celebration cakes. However we will require full payment up front for cakes with less than a week's notice.
Q. How can I pay?
A. Currently by either cheque or cash. Please make all cheques payable to 'Sugarlicious Ltd' and send to 8 School Road, Billericay, Essex CM12 9LH.
